There has been no official acknowledgment of their deaths by al-Shabab, the Somali government or Western diplomats. But residents in the village told the Reuters news agency that the two were shot dead, while the BBC said a senior al-Shabab figure had confirmed the deaths. The Associated Press also quoted an al-Shabab member as saying Amriki was dead.
